Road Stories / Not elusive, but still a pain ...

I was retained to serve a subpoena out of FL that I had to domesticate in the county the recipient now resided in. The customer sent me what was supposed to be a good address, explaining the property belonged to her new husband and they were both residing there. This was personal service only.

The property was a farmhouse out in the country. I visited three times and never encountered anything but cattle and ground hogs. The client authorized three more attempts. Two of these were exhausted by additional visits to the farmhouse, where once again I only encountered livestock and wildlife.

I finally hit pay dirt on Facebook, seeing a post from an area nightclub advertising a performance by a musician with the same name as the recipient's new husband. I found his personal page and a photo of him with a woman. He had tagged her and bingo! It was my recipient.

I snooped around her Facebook page and noticed she often went with him to his club dates. I decided to stake out the club he was playing at that night - the client approved the additional fee. Sure enough, about 6pm he rolled in driving a van. He was alone. I watched him unload and get back into the van.

I walked up to the van and introduced myself. He was quite surprised when I told him why I was there. He called the recipient and told her what was going on. He let me talk to her and I explained the situation. She agreed to drive to the club, and I served her.

As it turned out they did not even live at the farmhouse. It belonged to a family member and the husband just got mail there. While she would not tell me exactly where they did live, she did say it was a cabin on the river out on the boondocks and they lived completely off the grid.

Had I not spotted the nightclub's social post, this would have been a non-service. The client was happy, the recipient and her husband were pretty cool concerning the circumstances, and the job was completed.  8)

Welcome to the Process Server Discussion Forum. I thought it was time for a return to the days of online discussions as they happened before social media ruined everything. This forum is not connected to any social media platform. There are no ads, no recommended content and no bots. The only personal information you have to provide is a valid email address at signup so we can verify you are a human being. The only tracking here is through non-invasive browser cookies so the forum knows if you're logged in or out.

Nose around and get familiar with things. Some of you may not be familiar with online discussions outside the social media platforms - hopefully you will find this forum to be a refreshing change; where there are no distractions and you have total control over the content you choose to view here.

I think there might be some default rules embedded somewhere in this thing, but overall I don't want this to be a police state. We're all professionals and know how to behave like one.

Enjoy! --DZ  8)
